Public Outreach

MAARBLE:

MAARBLE was an FP7-Space collaborative research project, coordinated by Professor I.A. Daglis. It focussed on the properties of electromagnetic waves in geospace and their effects on the Van Allen belts. The project included significant public outreach activities, such as:

"Sounds of space” musical composition contest (http://www.maarble.eu/outreach/index.php/multimedia/sounds-of-space)

Interviewing scientists (http://www.maarble.eu/outreach/index.php/maarble-interviews)

Europlanet 2020 Research Infrastructure:

Europlanet 2020 RI is a Horizon 2020 project to integrate and support planetary science activities across Europe. The Space Physics Group participates in the Outreach activities of the project.

Presentations to the general public and schools:

Members of the Space Physics Group regularly make E/PO presentations both to the general public and to primary and secondary schools. Indicative presentations that have been recorded:

Athens Science Festival 2014, “Music and paintings in space: from electromagnetic waves to the aurora” by Ioannis A. Daglis (http://www.blod.gr/lectures/Pages/viewlecture.aspx?LectureID=1405)

Public Evenings of the Observatory of Athens, “A new astronomical dating of the Trojan War’s end” by Panagiota Preka-Papadema (https://spacegates.wordpress.com/2016/01/01/αστρονομικά-φαινόμενα-και-χρονικός-π/)

Supporting science fairs:

Members of the Space Physics Group have supported science fairs in schools (for example, at Arsakeio and Ellinogermaniki Agogi Schools).

AstroSpace Team:

Recently, Professor Daglis invited undergraduate and graduate students with a special interest in Space Physics and Astrophysics, to establish the AstroSpace Team and engage in public outreach event organisation and blogging. The AstroSpace Team keeps a quite successful FaceBook page (https://www.facebook.com/SpaceGates) and the SpaceGates blog (https://spacegates.wordpress.com).
